Part 3: Flash a Nail-Fin Window Over Housewrap
Apply and roll strips of a compatible flashing tape up the sides and across the head of the window for a weathertight installation.
When weatherproofing the window, the goal is to connect the WRB—in this case Benjamin Obdyke HydroGap housewrap—across the nailing fin and onto the window itself. However, this tape is only applied to the top and two sides of the window. Build Jake Bruton leaves the bottom of the window untouched because every window needs an emergency exit—an escape path for any moisture that finds itself behind the window. If not allowed to drain, this trapped water could lead to rot and decay. Ensure, as Jake does here, that if the tape you’re using is pressure-sensitive, you are rolling out each piece to make sure it’s secure.
