This homeowner was facing a complete kitchen remodel, but had a very limited budget. A close friend was also remodeling his kitchen at the same time and was removing his Youngstown steel cabinets, made in the 1940’s. They were purchased for $100 and a plan began to develop for this “new” kitchen. Industrial vinyl tiles in pink and gray were used as flooring and simple wooden cabinets were built to fill in the spaces where the Youngstown units didn’t work. A scalloped valance was built and placed above the sink, hiding the lighting fixtures. A window seat added a nice extra space to sit and a small office space was also built in. Open shelves display the homeowners colorful depression era Lu Ray and Fiestaware china. All in all, a really cool period kitchen, built on a very modest budget, and re-using perfectly good cabinets. Great!
